Make Money by Selling Handmade Dolls

Make Money by Selling Handmade Dolls

Handmade Dolls

If you are a person who is fond of crafts and enjoy making miniature toy figures, then you must try making money out of your handmade dolls. You can market to children and to adults, as well. After all, miniature dolls or handmade dolls are appreciated by people of all ages. Nevertheless, selling dolls to adults can be both entertaining and profitable. Collectors who like to collect a variety of dolls usually offer good money. If you sell to these people, you will not even need to worry about making beautiful miniature puppets. Oftentimes, the uglier and primitive-looking the handmade dolls are, the more collectors appreciate them.

For instance, when a brand of ugly dolls came out in 2002, adults became more curious about them than children. They were more excited, and they began buying such ugly handmade dolls. Perhaps, it is the newness and the uniqueness of these handmade figures that intrigued a lot of people. It may also be the concept of beauty behind ugliness that made them want more of these miniature figures. Most of these adults felt that there is something fashionable within the ugly miniature dolls. They also thought that such handmade dolls were very creatively done. So, if you make and sell miniature dolls, you can easily earn back the money you used for funding.

You can start making stump dolls in different colors and sizes. These miniature dolls are perhaps the easiest dolls to make. They may seem odd and ugly, but a lot of collectors actually collect them. These handmade dolls are very trendy these days. Numerous stores have also started selling these kinds of dolls. It will just up to you on how you will market your handmade dolls. If you want to outdo your competitors, you have to think of cool gimmicks and promotional offers to attract customers. Then, you can also produce primitive Raggedy Ann dolls. These miniature playmates have always been popular, but the country or primitive versions can really earn you huge profits. If you do not know how to make these miniature playthings, you can research on the Internet. You can gain inspiration from people who have already succeeded in making and selling these miniature dolls.

Moreover, you can sell Black Dolls or Mammy Dolls. These handmade dolls are very controversial; thereby, making them more popular. Some people say that they symbolize racism so they should not be sold; but others claim otherwise and say that these dolls are beautiful and historical. Furthermore, you can make and sell some tuck dolls. Tuck dolls are actually miniature dolls that are tucked into a box or blanket. So, they do not necessarily need legs and feet. You just have to create the dolls' the upper bodies and tuck them into something.

Barbie Dolls - History and Facts

Barbie Dolls - History and Facts

The Barbie doll phenomenon began in 1959 when Barbie was introduced at the New York Toy fair. Then began a great success story in the history of doll manufacturing. Barbie was the first adult doll figure to be mass produced. Before this nearly all dolls were modelled after babies or children. "New for '59,The Barbie Doll:A Shapely Teenage Fashion Model Price .00" was her intitial billing.

In 1945 Elliot and Ruth Handler formed a partnership with Harold Matson to manufacture picture frames. The two names Matson and Elliot were combined to form the company name Mattel. Elliot used the picture frame wood scrap to make doll house furniture. This was the start of the Handler furniture business.

About this time Ruth noticed that her daughter Barbara and friends preferred to play with adult paper dolls rather than child or baby dolls. The girls preferred a doll which could be their role model when they grew up. Ruth realised that there could be big commercial possibilities in the adult doll market. She discussed the idea with her husband but he felt that it would be too expensive to start making the dolls.

Soon after this Ruth made a trip to Germany and purchased a doll called Lilli. This adult type doll was based on a German comic strip. On returning to the USA she began work to redesign the doll working with a doll clothes designer. Soon the Barbie doll was born and was named after Ruth's daughter Barbara. The doll was patented by Mattel in 1958 and introduced in 1959. She was to become one of the most well known and well loved toys ever made.

Barbie soon became a collectors doll and was avidly sought after by adult collectors. Between 1959 and 1972 Barbie underwent seven changes in her appearance and design. These Barbies made up to 1972 are recognised as vintage collectible dolls by their fans and are eagerly sought after. The 1959 Barbie doll in mint condition will sell for thousands of dollars. Some have sold for as much as 00 to ,000 but you can buy them for much less and 00 to 00 is quite common. Later editions fetch proportionately less. Dolls made in the 1969 to 1972 period can often be bought for a few dollars. Garage sales and flea markets are still the source of a few early dolls. About 300,000 of the 1959 Barbie were made and there are undoubtedly many out there still undiscovered.

The History Of The Mary Hoyer Dolls

The History Of The Mary Hoyer Dolls

Mary Hoyer Dolls

Established in 1925, the Mary Hoyer Doll Manufacturing Company started as a craft store in Reading Pennsylvania. The founder, Mary Hoyer, initially made knitted items for children and infants to wear. Later on, she used a model doll to make crocheted and knitted dresses with her pattern book. The dolls were initially supplied by Ideal Novelty and Toy Company with its twist waist and torso feature. Thus, the first few dolls were labeled with Ideal's marking. Nevertheless, the doll's clothes were labeled Hoyer.

In 1937, Mary then hired Bernard Lipfert's expertise in doll making to create her own doll line. The dolls were made of composition materials, sleep eyes or painted eyes, real upper lashes but the lower portion is painted, and a closed mouth. The models were also manufactured by the Fiberoid Doll Products Co.. The dolls were then embossed with the label "The Mary Hoyer Doll."

By the end of 1946, the Hoyer dolls sported a hard plastic material which has the marking "ORIGINAL Mary Hoyer Doll Made in USA." This newer version had mohair wig, blue sleep eyes with eyelids, closed mouth, and still with real upper lashes and painted lower ones.

In 1937, the company started to make their boy doll which measured 14 inches tall and had an all composition body which sometimes comes in prince costumes. The hard plastic version came around 1946 which also sported a jointed body, sleep eyes, short mohair wig, and a closed mouth. The boy doll was also produced in limited number, thus it is slightly priced higher than the common female dolls. This also makes it as one of the most sought -after dolls for collectors.

Another character that was launched in the 1950s by Hoyer was the Gigi doll. It came in two size varieties, 14 inches and 18 inches tall. It had a jointed string body which was also made of hard plastic. The doll featured hair wig, sleeps eyes, closed mouth, and also a hard plastic head.

In 1957, the 10.5-inch Vicky doll was introduced and it came with twist waist, rooted hair, high-heeled feet, and a jointed hard plastic fashion body. The doll was actually the Suzette doll of Uneeda thus it has the marking of the Uneeda Doll Company on its neck as it was supplied by them. It was then repackaged and dressed with Hoyer's clothing creations.

The Mary Hoyer Doll company had its business closed in the 1970s but was then recently relaunched with its new creations. The new doll editions are priced from to as much as $229. The dolls also come with a line of accessories and clothes and amazingly a line of beautifully crafted wigs of different colors and hairstyles.

Reborn Dolls - A Beginner's Guide

Reborn Dolls - A Beginner's Guide

Reborn Dolls

Reborn Dolls naivtu Baby Doll Carrier Backpack Front/Back Carrier with Straps, Adjustable to Fit Any Child, Reborn Baby Doll Accessories

Easy to clean: machine washable. You can also wipe the dust with a dry cotton cloth or gently wipe the stain with a cotton cloth dipped in cold water.

BEst gift:baby doll carrier for little girls, suitable for kids of different ages, a gift for dolls, also the best festival and birthday gift for kids

Reborn dolls - or reborn baby dolls, as they are also known - are currently a hot topic which causes controversy whenever it comes up in conversation or in the Press.

Opinion is divided into two camps. The first group comprises largely women who enjoy the pastime of either collecting or making reborn dolls. At the other end of the spectrum is an element of the general public -often men - who believe that the first group are crazy for wanting to create or cherish these incredibly realistic dolls!

So what exactly are reborn dolls and why do they polarize opinion?

In simple terms, a reborn doll is an extremely life-like vinyl doll which resembles a newborn baby. The heads, limbs and bodies are usually made of high quality vinyl, although some have soft cloth bodies.

The baby doll's hair is often rooted with mohair, while the limbs, hands and feet have wrinkles, veins, fingernails and toenails, applied using specialist paints and techniques.

Reborn baby dolls range in size from:Minis at a mere 6 inches long Newborns at 14" long Preemies (short for premature babies) at 15" to 17", Baby dolls in general which are normally anywhere from 14" to 20" in length Toddler dolls which are usually 20" to 22".

The dolls can be either baby girls or baby boys, although girls are more popular.

The owners of reborn dolls fall into 2 categories: Doll collectors who buy reborn dolls produced by doll companies such as Berenguer, Lee Middleton and Ashton Drake. The extremely high level of craftsmanship and top quality materials which go into the making of these collector dolls mean that they do not come cheap. Recommended retail prices range from approximately £100 to £200 (0 to 0) or even more. Hobbyists who start with a basic doll kit consisting of a blank head, limbs and body produced by a specialist doll kit company such as Secrist in the USA. They then spend weeks or even months painstakingly painting, washing and rooting to create a life-like baby doll - some barely indistinguishable from a real baby. This hobby is called reborning and is becoming ever more popular in countries such as the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

These dolls are known as OOAK - or One Of A Kind - as each doll created is unique. In the USA, top quality OOAK reborn dolls can command prices up to ,400 (£950). Some reborners also take on commissions and work to a photograph of an actual baby - in much the same way as an artist who creates a likeness of a person by painting a portrait.

If you've ever seen a reborn doll up close, it is easy to understand why reborners and doll collectors become so emotionally attached to them. The best ones really do look like living babies!

In addition, the level of craftsmanship exhibited by the most gifted reborn doll artists is also a thing of wonder. The lifelike expressions and skin colouring, the tiny veins and wrinkles all reflect the skill and artistry of the creator.

For those who think we are crazy, I would ask what is wrong with wanting to collect or create an object of beauty into which a great deal of love and attention has been poured? for those cynics out there I would ask - is your hobby as gentle and caring as reborn dolls?

So go ahead you're not crazy! Join the growing band of hobbyists and collectors who enjoy reborn dolls.

Watch out girly dolls! There's a new doll in town.

Bratz, Barbie and Liv make way for the Monster High range of dolls. They are way too cool and a bit freaky at the same time.

The adults might wonder what all the rage is about but the tweens and teens can't get enough of them. Even the little ones can get a plush version so they don't miss out of the fun factor. The dolls are cute, fabulously fashionable and I think a pretty good idea given all the girly interest in vampires and werewolves nowadays.

The Monster High ghouls come in super fab packaging and are larger than the Bratz dolls, standing at 10 ½ inches tall. The dolls are very slim looking, however I discovered the clothing from Bratz dolls will fit the Monster High ghouls. It seems the hands and the forearms pop out at the elbow for really easy redressing, if you have very small children around, pick up one of the scarily delightful plushies instead. Each come with their favorite outfit and a scary cool pet and are very soft and super cuddly. The Fearbook journal is an essential accessory to have, along with the Icoffin and tote bag, the list goes on.

Lets meet the characters. There's Deuce Gorgon with his super cool snakehawk and sunglasses to keep from turning his friends to stone. He comes with his double tailed pet rat named Perseus and he's the son of Medusa.

His girlfriend is Cleo de Nile, daughter of The Mummy and an Egyptian Princess. She is the mean girl at Monster High and captain of the fearleading squad. She comes with a purse and her pet Cobra named Hisette.

Then there's: Frankie Stein, daughter of Frankenstein and his bride. She's only 15 days old and comes with her pet Watzit, which is made from several animals. Draculaura, daughter of Count Dracula, she is a vegetarian and comes with her pet bat named Count Fabulous. Clawdeen Wolf, daughter of The Wolfman and who comes with a purse and her kitten Crescent. Then to round out the bunch, there is Lagoona Blue, daughter of The Sea Monster and friend to everyone. She's the surfer girl and comes with her pet Neptuna.

The latest additions to the range are the Dawn of the Dance series consisting Cleo de Nile, Frankie Stein and Clawdeen wolf. Plus Goulia Yelps, Holt Hide and Gloom Beach doll sets. All come with their own gorgeous accessories and stand.

The Monster High dolls are part of Mattel's new franchise targeting tweens and teenagers. About to join the successful animated series will be a live action feature film. Universal pictures have just acquired the rights to produce the movie. It will be adapted to the big screen by Smallville producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The following was quoted on themovieblog.com:-

"Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are developing MONSTER HIGH the movie for Universal Pictures. They will write the script for the live action musical movie described as Beetlejuice meets The Addams Family and it will feature "famous monsters including Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman undergoing the trials and tribulations of high school."

Can't wait for the invasion to begin!

The fabrics and trims used to restore the porcelain doll should always be representatives from the period that the doll was originally produced, which will help keep its integrity and in determining their value.

During the 1800s, porcelain dolls were produced in Germany, France, and Denmark by hand, but then during the last of the nineteenth century manufactures began mass producing the arms, legs, and heads of these marvelous dolls in Germany. There are two types of porcelain dolls which are china that have a glazed face, and bisque where the skin has a more natural look and has an unglazed finish.

Porcelain dolls that were produced in Germany were not as elegant as their French counterparts, but they were much more popular with the general population because they were much more affordable. Today it is not hard to locate porcelain dolls that resemble babies, youngsters, and adults, which are available in a number of sizes, nationalities, and costumes.

Dead Tired Dolls Review - The New Monster High Sleepover Dolls

Capturing the experience

Mattel has captured this experience in their latest product series, the Dead Tired Dolls. The girl characters from Monster High have a sleepover after a very long and tiring week at school.

Mattel created Monster High, which has become a hype among young children and teenagers, in 2010. First coming out with dolls, the franchise now has a webcast shown on their website, a book series and a movie up in the works.

The Monster High characters are either offsprings or close relatives of infamous Universal Monsters such as Dracula, Medusa, the Mummy, the Werewolf, the Sea Monster and Zombies.

They go to the same school, Monster High, and go about a daily existence just as a normal teenager would: dealing with popularity, having fun times with friends, and learning how to handle their boy/girl crushes. All these they have to handle on top of school.

With these new product series, four characters from Monster High decide to have a sleepover and just have a relaxing time. Monster High Dead Tired Ghoulia Yelps Doll, Dead Tired Draculaura Doll, Cleo De Nile Doll and Frankie Stein Doll all gear up for a sleep-in with friends. All of the dolls are dressed up in their favorite jammies and bring their favorite accessory to the sleepover.

Four different dolls to choose from

Each doll is sold separately. Each one comes with an eye mask, a Dead Tired outfit perfect for the sleepover and an accessory. Just like the other dolls from the previous series, these dolls are bendable so you can have them strike whatever pose you would want.

Each doll has a different character that every girl can relate to. Every girl can choose the character that they like best or they can also collect all 4 dolls.

Monster High Dead Tired Ghoulia Yelps Doll - Ghoulia Yelps is a daughter of a Zombie couple. She is 16 years old in monster years. She loves reading books and she is the smartest girl student in Monster High. She loves eating at fast food joints and never goes out without her horn-rimmed glasses. She has a pet owl named Sir Hoots A Lot. She is best friends with Cleo De Nile.
Monster High Dead Tired Draculaura Doll - Draculaura is the daughter of the infamous Dracula. She is 1,599 years old. Her favorite clothing ensemble is black and pink, the same color as her hair. She always goes out with her favorite accessory her frilly umbrella. This allows her to have one of her favorite pastimes, having walks out in the sun. Although a vampire, Draculaura hates drinking blood and loves eating fruits and vegetables instead. So much so that she has decided to be a vegan. She is best friends with Frankie Stein.
Monster High Dead Tired Cleo De Nile Doll - Cleo is 5,842 years old and is the daughter of the Mummy. As she is a real Egyptian princess she is used to having people serve her and she loves being in command. She is captain of the Fear leading Squad. Just like a mummy, she has stray wrappings included in her wardrobe. Her headdress, exotic jewelries and gold streaked hair completes her everyday look. She has a pet Cobra named Hisette who she can speak to and who she can get to do whatever she says.
Monster High Dead Tired Frankie Stein Doll - Frankie is the daughter of Frankenstein. She is only 15 days old. She has black and white hair that is waist length and her favorite fashion getup is anything in blue plaid. As she is just 15 days old she is still experiencing things and so far loves every food that she's had. She has a pet named Watzit who is made from different kinds of animals.

Rare Dolls - Did Your Grandmother Give You Any of These?

Samsung Galaxy

If you want the next big thing in collectibles, think about buying vintage dolls. There are many reasons why these lovely items are such good collectibles. One is that, beyond their basic monetary value, they're nice to behold and make great conversation pieces.

Another positive aspect of collecting vintage dolls is that they have a really interesting and unique historical value. Different types of dolls, whether mass marketed or rare dolls, were made at different periods in history. Getting an antique doll can encourage you and/or your children to look into the background of the doll and learn about what was going on in history at the time it was made.

The price of antique dolls varies depending on age, condition, and rarity. Their values have increased throughout the years and continue to do so. Consequently, owning antique dolls will prove to be quite an investment. Not only is an older doll a nice way to decorate your home, but it will prove to be a financial bonus in years to come once you decide to sell it.

There are many places that offer good deals on vintage dolls. Among the most popular places to purchase them is through the internet, where there are many retailers that offer them for sale, as well as a variety of auction sites where people place them for bid. One of the best things about purchasing dolls through the internet is that you can do price comparison and research about a specific doll's value in the current market all at one time.

Some great places to find some of these older dolls include flea markets and antique fairs. These work well because not only can you physically inspect the dolls for quality, but also you might be able to bargain with the seller and purchase the doll a bit cheaper. However, if you aren't very educated about the dolls prior to attending one of these functions you might not know a great value when you see it.

No matter where you purchase your dolls, be sure and keep them in pristine shape. To maximize the value of your investment don't forget to keep all clothing, accessories, etc. Also make sure you store your dolls properly, away from moisture and sunlight, to keep them looking new.

Reborn Dolls - A Beginner's Guide
